Helping you to celebrate World Vegan Month and World Vegan Day on Monday 1st November, we’ve shared some of our favourite places to eat at in the capital.

From North to South and East to West, there’s no shortage of cafes, bars, pubs restaurants and fine dining establishments in London, voted the number one vegan friendly city by HappyCow.

However you choose to mark World Vegan Month and World Vegan Day, be sure to share it far and wide using the #WorldVeganMonth and #WorldVeganDay hashtags on social media.

We’ll be reviewing more restaurants in London and adding those here so do check back again for an update and leave a comment to recommend your favourite establishment.

All restaurants were personally experienced and reviewed by our editor.

Flat 3, Notting Hill

For a high end fine dining experience, Flat 3 in Notting Hill have a seasonal 5 course vegan tasting menu along with an impressive wine and sake list.

The menu is inspired by the flavours of Korea and Japan, using fresh British produce and foraged goods. On this occasion (during October) that was some inventive dishes including golden beetroot, mushrooms, peas and broad beans. Each serving is delicately and creatively presented and every component of it thoroughly explained in exquisite detail. Both Juliana and Katherine are extremely knowledgeable and clearly very passionate about the food and wine.

A memorable and unique experience in all and one we’ve labelled as one of our all time favourites. Read reviews.

Powerplant Camden

A newcomer to the Camden scene and housed in the trendy new co-working space and hotel Selina. On a Tuesday night the atmosphere was buzzy and casual. The staff are friendly and service is quick and efficient. An electric mix of carb heaven vegan fusion tapas style dishes are perfecting for sharing. You can see some of the dishes recipes here.

Be sure to leave room for desert as the peanut butter blondie with ice cream is absolutely delicious and the best vegan desert i’ve ever eaten! Powerplant is also open of breakfast and has some tasty things on the menu such as waffles and maple syrup!

During the week and at the weekends you can attend one of their concept nights such as movie and jazz nights. Read reviews.

The Ned – Malibu Kitchen, Bank

If you didn’t know already, The Ned is a huge hotel and members’ club from the people behind Soho House.

Malibu Kitchen has so many delicious vegan dishes on the menu, you’ll want to eat them all! I have been there 3 times now and have (just about) worked my way through it. This is one of 9 restaurants within the hotel and has the most emphasis on vegan food, Californian style.

The concept is healthy – think superfood salads and plenty of raw dishes, alongside fresh juices and smoothies. The food is flavourful and very moorish, the portion sizes are truly American and it is very easy to over order. As for dessert, we loved their gluten free raw chocolate cake.

This is another fab restaurant with a buzzing atmosphere and live band in the evenings from a raised central stage. It’s a great night out along with eating delicious vegan food. Book in advance as the Ned is busy at all hours.

Farmacy, Notting Hill

Farmacy supports both a vegan and vegetarian diet, free from dairy, refined sugars, additives and chemicals. Their philosophy is to opt for organic as an organic, plant-based approach to eating comes with an array of benefits: increased energy and wellbeing, improved gut health and cognitive function as well as being kinder to the environment.

With a focus on ‘clean indulgence’, the menu is not just made up of salads and protein boosters, there’s also a selection of healthy comfort foods and cocktails.

As autumn draws closer and winter gets nearer, try their signature autumn dish from their new menu – the forager’s pie. A comforting combination of chard, mushrooms and Jerusalem artichokes topped with oven-baked sweet potato mash – comfort food does not have to be unhealthy!

Cutting no corners Farmacy also shakes up a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks from their Alchemy Bar, using ingredients known for their medicinal benefits including flaxseed oil, cayenne pepper and even cannabis oil to give you a good and proper healthy boost. For a healthy, guilt free dinner, Farmacy is just what the doctor ordered. Read reviews.

Mother Works, Hackney Wick

Mother in Hackney Wick is a firm favourite for vegans in the east, with fresh juices, vegan burritos, burgers and bagels. It opened its doors in 2016 with a passion to make wholesome plant-based food that doesn’t cost the earth.

They understand the importance of organic ingredients and source over 90% of their products and produce from organic suppliers. If we lived closer we’d definitely go there more often.

motherworks

We discovered this gem after seeing a post on instagram of their gluten free bagel smothered with cashew cream cheese and smoked carrot ‘salmon’ topped with dill and lemon. It looked so delicious we just had to go and try it for ourselves..which we did and we were not disappointed. Their juice and smoothie menu is phenomenal too

In the summer months it’s great as you can sit outside by the river and there’s plenty of grassy areas to sit on. Read reviews.

Wulf & Lamb, Chelsea

wulf&lamb

Their head chef is Franco Casolin, who previously worked at none other than Vanilla Black, which made waves for being one of the first genuinely contemporary vegetarian restaurants in the capital.

You could miss Wulf & Lamb unless you know this area of Chelsea well as it’s hidden down the pedestrian only Pavilion road, just off the Kings road and Sloane Square.

On the 100% plant based menu, there’s the classic “Chili’non’Carne” with cashew sour cream, a signature spicy bean burger that they’ve dubbed the Wulf Burger and delicious mouth watering desserts.

The concept: ”Run with the wolves, eat with the lambs”. Why is it called Wulf & Lamb we ask? The lupine and the ovine…traditionally not the best of friends. Typecast as the enemy and the innocent. Predator and prey. Their story, and their aim, is about sweetly slaying misconceptions. And surprising harmony – amongst people, flavours and our place in the world.

wulf&lamb

The atmosphere is casual and relaxed with tables on two floors. You order you food at the counter downstairs and pay before you eat but there is table service for drink. There are also salad bowls, wraps and sandwiches when you have less time to spare.

Choose from chargrilled broccoli with colourful radishes, coronation cauliflower in a wrap or the New York Reuben on rye with sauerkraut. For that sweet tooth you can grab a dairy-free, gluten-free and egg-free pastry or vegan cake. Read our review.

Theo Randall at the Intercontinental Hotel, Park Lane

Celebrated chef Theo Randall prepares rustic Italian fare with the finest seasonal ingredients in London’s best Italian restaurant. He produces delicious food that is seasonal and uses only the best ingredients available.

Theo Randall is one of the best chefs in the city and we are rather excited as we have been invited to try out the vegan menu at the fabulous restaurant located within the prestigious InterContinental Hotel on Park Lane next week.

Having taken a sneak peek at the menu it’s made up in Italian style of Antipasti, Primi, Secondi and Contorni – we have already looked and mentally chosen our dishes.

We have our eye on the risotto di zucchini e pomodoro (that’s risotto with courgettes, San Marzano tomatoes and basil) and the linguine con funghi (that’s pasta with portobello and porcini mushrooms, garlic and parsley). Read reviews.

Gauthier, Soho

Gauthier Soho is renowned for its traditional French cuisine but chef and owner Alexis Gauthier has steadily turned his attention to vegan fare. Gauthier began to ditch animal products in 2015 following protests by animal rights charity PETA, which ultimately led to him going vegan.

As of June 23rd 2021, after a five-year transition, Gauthier Soho is now proudly 100% vegan. Dining in the restaurant is quite an exquisite experience, never before have we seen someone grate a carrot with a machine at the table wearing silk gloves! Read reviews.

Pollen St Social, Mayfair

The Michelin-starred Pollen Street Social offers beautiful vegan and vegetarian tasting menus, alongside its tasting and a la carte menus.

They do an amazing 8 course vegan tasting menu which we went for (they also do some a la carte options and a 5 course tasting menu).

Jason Atherton can do little wrong, and he can now counts vegans among his legions of fans. A star of this seasonally-charged show is a very English risotto of pearl barley, New Forest mushroom and autumn truffle (vegans like a bit of luxury sometimes, you know). Read reviews.

Circus, Covent Garden

Circus, as some of you may know, is a Pan-Asian restaurant accompanied by “cabaret” entertainment. They’ve got aerialists, fire-eaters, magicians and dancers. Its new Vegan Tasting Menu is the latest plant-based gem to hit the London restaurant scene, a four-course extravaganza served to share and including a glass of prosecco each (also vegan!)

The brainchild behind this latest vegan menu is executive chef Andrew Lassetter who has created something quite exceptional here. It’s not just good, it is a very good plant-based menu.

The food is refined and flavoursome, bound to please vegans and carnivores alike. Each dish is extremely tasty and well presented with colourful garnish and edible flowers. I absolutely adored the Chilli Crusted Tofu. Perfectly cooked, it is crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Heaven on a plate even if you are not a tofu fan.

We also loved the Mango Sorbet Eaton Mess (made with aquafaba) as well as the Date & Water Chestnut Gyoza, and Truffle & Mushroom Spinach Parcel. Every dish was perfectly balanced with dips or sauces. Read reviews.

Vegan Afternoon Tea at the Ham Yard, Soho

The Ham Yard bar and restaurant has now joined the vegan revolution with the launch of their Vegan Afternoon Tea London, a healthier take on the quintessentially Brit spread. There’s even a sugar free and gluten free option available on request.

It looked so pretty presented in a three-tier cake stand piled high with savouries, homemade cupcakes, dairy free blueberry cheesecake, freshly baked warm scones and vegan clotted cream.

There was far too much food for the two of us but I am sure over a few hours, the whole lot could have been demolished. Read our review.

Rabbit, Chelsea

rabbit chelsea

With a name like Rabbit and a rustic restaurant known for its farm to table meat and fish dishes, one would never expect a vegan menu to be served here, and an extremely delicious one too. Talking of Rabbit, it’s actually cockney rhyming slang for ‘talk’, think of the expression ”she would not stop Rabbitting!”, which makes more sense now given its location on the Kings Road, where the Sloaney’s live, eat, drink and gossip.

Rabbit restaurant, is the second restaurant from the three Gladwin brothers, Richard, Oliver and Gregory. All the produce at Rabbit is ethically and sustainably sourced from the Gladwin family farm in Nutbourne, Sussex. Read our review.

La Goccia at Petersham Gardens, Covent Garden

Whilst there might not be an actual nursery, the Petersham Nurseries Covent Garden outpost has, at its heart, a lifestyle store and florist – one of those gorgeous shops where everything looks super stylish, chic and you want to buy it.

La Goccia follows the ever-so-trendy tapas style of dining; plates are reasonably priced in the £10 (give or take) range, and servings are small/average sized but reasonable based on the quality of food and the restaurants location.

Vegans can indulge from the “garden” section, with ample vegan-friendly options and the best onion and rosemary focaccia ever. Best to go here in the summer months and sit in the beautiful courtyard that has a fun and relaxed vibe. Read reviews.

Texture, Mayfair

texture restaurant vegan

Located in Mayfair, Texture restaurant and champagne bar is housed in a beautifully restored Georgian building. The theme is set on emphasising the wonderful aspects of our local nature and this is evident in the white décor and bare white trees and striking floral/twig arrangements.

Their mission is to create meals that involve all of our senses while encouraging their guests to explore different textures of food and wines – at the centre of the dining experience.

We tried the delicious and fragrant seven course tasting and wine pairing menu. The food blends contemporary European cuisine with Scandinavian influence, focusing on contrasts and textures, with each ingredient carefully selected to create show-stopping dishes. Read our review.
