Yoga and Vegan Brunch with Kali Cooking
My ideal healthy Saturday in London contains yoga, meeting friends, trying out a new vegan place then eating lots of delicious food and taking pictures of it to post on instagram.
I am always on the look out for new wellness events going on in the city for the Wellbeing in the City Guide that i’m curating. During my research I came across the lovely Kali Cooking. Kali is a well travelled and big hearted chef, who has created a plant powered Supper Club called Flaming Flamingo. She trained at the Natural Gourmet Institute in New York, a school that specialises in whole food, healthy supportive and vegetarian cooking.
The concept is this – trying something new and meeting new people over delicious and exciting food. Held at varying venues in London and in New York, offering yoga brunches and evening events. Beginning with drinks and welcome plates, before sitting down to a multi course dinner. Menus inspired by Kali’s travels, always vegetable led, made from scratch and thoughtfully sourced food. Check out some of her incredible recipes here for some inspiration and you’ll immediately start to drool over the pictures!. I am in love with the quinoa granola, it’s absolutely delicious!.
I went along to their Yoga & Brunch event at the really cool venue Benk & Bo in Shoreditch. Opened by friends Mariell and Antony, their vision was to have ‘a creative eco-system bringing people together from different disciplines to work, make, learn, share ideas and collaborate.
The afternoon is relaxed and friendly, an opportunity to relax and let go with like minded people. Starting at 12pm in the upstairs studio with with a relaxing yoga practice with yoga teacher and collaborator Emmy. I took my front row position on the mat so I could sneak in a few photos whilst moving through the flow of asanas. Emmy’s energy is very calming and the practice was dynamic but not too strenuous.
During the savasana I started thinking about food and was hungry in anticipation of the three course menu we were about to eat. We all headed downstairs to a beautifully set table and got the opportunity to meet and talk to new people whilst waiting for the first course to arrive.
On the menu
Guac, Dips & Chips to start
Zingy Mushroom Tempeh Larb
Cauliflower steaks with ancho spiced pumpkin puree, smoky salsas, fresh herbs & black beans tortillas & leave to wrap
Spiked blood orange & rhubarb with kaffir lime scented coconut
The afternoon ended at 4pm and was everything a vegan Yogi heart could wish for. Head here for the calendar of upcoming events with Kali Cooking. Don’t miss the popular Flaming Flamingo curry nights, the next one takes place on Friday the 6th of July from 7:30 – 10:30pm.
