One of the first things that reminds me I am back at Atzaró is the distinctive croaking sounds of the frogs as I walk down the path, past the Buddha statues to the entrance of the 300 year old finca. Then there’s the abundance of orange trees (a symbol of love) and the brightly coloured fruit that has fallen off the trees, picked up and placed upon a table. Like the orange, Atzaró is happy, vibrant and attracts the attention of others. The rich aroma of the blossom, lavender and rosemary fill the air from the gardens.

There’s always something to be celebrated at Atzaró, whether that’s a wedding, mini moon, birthday, festival or just everyday life, there is no better place for it. You will fall in love with the beautifully manicured gardens and the chic bohemian decor. There are so many places to ”just be”, alone, with your partner or friends, you will find your spot to hibernate undisturbed for a few hours. There are plenty of spacious daybeds, or as I like to call them – day dens.

This is when the magic takes place, where you can surrender, let go and completely relax. Maybe that’s why the iconic letters spelling out the word LOVE stand at the end of one of the swimming pools, as a reminder that love really is everywhere.

Open all year round, Atzaró attracts people from all over the world, not just for holidays but for international music and fashion events. It’s a hit with the locals too, bringing the community together – especially yoga teachers, therapists, and artists having hosted a number of wellbeing festivals over the years.

As a guest who has experienced some of the best spa’s in the world, I was blown away by the facial I received in what can only be described as an open air Balinese temple. A facial that involved a massage of the head, back and shoulders, hypnotized me into a deep meditation.

Being a vegan, I was most delighted by the breakfast served until 12pm offering an a la carte menu including avocado, beans, mushroom and other fresh vegetables available, along with fresh juices and smoothies. For those who like to start the day with something stronger (you are probably on holiday after all) there’s champagne.

Atzaró has got plenty of soul and it’s clear to see why it’s the ideal location for a retreat –  which are organised throughout the year, or you want your own private retreat when you are feeling burnt out, the healing and uplifting energy will make you feel better simply for being there. There’s a daily schedule of classes to participate in – yoga, pilates, meditation Tai chi and fitness. For non guests they’ve also created day and monthly packages, incorporating the classes and full access to the spa. A winter respite, an uplighting spring break, or a summer celebration, Atzaró will welcome you all year round.

Before you leave, be sure to check your reflection from one of the lily pad leaves floating in the pond and register that inner smile glowing from ear to ear.
