About The Retreat

Relax and unwind at this beautiful venue in the beautiful vale of Borrowdale. We are located in one of the finest walking locations anywhere in the country.

Renowned for its excellent food, the centre has been extensively refurbished in recent years. All bedrooms are now ensuite and many have lovely views of the surrounding valleys. The spacious lounge has lovely views and a cosy log fire for colder evenings.

Venue

Set in the heart of the Lake District, Glaramara is surrounded by some of the finest mountains and lakes in the country. It is one of the finest walking locations anywhere in the country, with majestic mountains and Lakeland fells as well as tranquil lakes, waterfalls and peaceful woodland, providing captivating scenery for all levels of walkers.

Glaramara, is a purpose-built walking centre located at a commanding position in the beautiful vale of Borrowdale. Renowned for its excellent food, the centre has been extensively refurbished in recent years.

All bedrooms are now ensuite and many have lovely views of the surrounding valleys. The spacious lounge has lovely views and a cosy log fire for colder evenings.

Yoga classes

We offer four yoga classes for the two-night stay. The Friday night welcome practice will be a chance to unwind and settle into the beautiful surroundings.

The early morning practice on Saturday will wake up our bodies and prepare us for the day of walking ahead. On Saturday evening we will have a chance to stretch those tired muscles and relax. The Sunday morning practice will be a gentle session designed to ease us into another day of walking or prepare you for your journey home.

On Sunday evening we will have another opportunity to stretch those tired limbs and the final Monday morning practice will be designed to leave you calm and chilled. There is the option to take our yoga classes outside at this venue if the weather permits.

The walking options include Glaramara, Allen Crags, Eagle Crag, Sergeant Crag, High Raise, Ullscarf, Dale Head, Hindscarth and Robinson, which are all accessible walks from the front door of the centre. There are also beautiful lower walk options that include Castle Crag, Kings How and Bessy Boot, Styhead Pass and Sprinkling Tarn.

Teacher

Carol is a Yoga Alliance qualified teacher who also loves the outdoors. Carol’s approach to yoga is ever evolving and exploratory, encompassing many styles, from Ashtanga to somatic movement. Also a keen walker, cyclist and fell runner, Carol believes that yoga is a way to enhance the benefits of sports and cultivate holistic fitness.

Schedule / Typical day

Morning yoga before breakfast, then we had out to walk after breakfast with a packed lunch. We return to the hotel around 5pm, with yoga before dinner. After dinner there is time to relax.

Cuisine

The food is plentiful, freshly prepared with local seasonal ingredients. Vegetarian and vegan options are available. Special dietary needs can be catered for.

Location and how to get there

Glaramara, Seatoller, Borrowdale Nr. Keswick, Cumbria CA12 5XQ. The Lake District The nearest rail station is Penrith which lies on the west coast main line. Penrith is 25 miles from the hotel. Trains run regularly from all over the country to Penrith station and from there regular bus services link to Keswick (number. X4 X5) and then on to Borrowdale (number 77 77a 79).
