Yoga Classes
The Yoga method that we teach in the mornings is designed to nourish the body and calm the nervous system. Rather than offering enervating vinyasa flow cycles and jumping from one posture to another, we take our time in each posture and between each posture to establish a joyful steadiness in the body, free from tension, giving each guest the opportunity to experience a sense of ‘presence’ from moment to moment via the unification of the body, the mind and the breath.
Day by day, the yoga practice will evolve into a deeper exploration of the present moment, allowing us to recognize and address self-sabotaging tendencies, judgmental attitudes, and the inclination to push beyond limits.
We work towards resolving these constraints by embracing vitality and authenticity.
In the evening we offer a practice of restorative, somatic yoga. This is a subtle yet powerful practice of postures that are held for longer than other practices in order to release mental, emotional and physical tension.
Engaging in somatic yoga movement sessions can facilitate a profound connection with buried layers of emotional trauma, whilst unlocking the energy trapped within unresolved emotional wounds.
The exercises consist of straightforward movements, performed repetitively to awaken the body and encourage a fuller embodiment. Rather than suppressing movement, we embrace it as it naturally unfolds, following the body’s rhythms of activity and rest. Throughout, we prioritize moments for breathing, relaxation, stretching, and bridging the inner and outer worlds.
Restorative somatic yoga aims to foster a creative process that feeds our connection with ourselves and others by enriches ‘intangible’ aspects that promote deep joy and meaning.
Both yoga methods encourage ‘meditation in motion’ and foster a deep communion with the inner self. By placing our awareness on the changing sensations that we are experiencing, breath by breath, we can tether the mind to the physical body, fully committing to each exquisite moment.
As we become more present and more embodied, the ability to concentrate increases the pleasure of stability and ease, leading to the original purpose of yoga : somatic understanding of body-mind-breath-spirit.
By the time you leave Kaliyoga the insight you have gained will be an incentive to continue practicing at home, using a methodology that can be applied to all styles of yoga posture practice.
