About The Retreat

Luxury glamping in converted horse boxes with wood-fired hot tubs in the heart of Scotland, a secluded escape for couples or families.

Set in the grounds of the beautiful Alexander House in the heart of Scotland, Juniper and Thistle are expertly converted horse lorries that now serve as glamping accommodation.

Wake up surrounded by the spectacular Scottish countryside with views across Gleneagles and out to the Highlands. Both have their own wood-fired hot tubs and space for two adults and two young children.

Juniper is hidden away in the Scots pines creating some privacy while allowing glimpses out to the Highlands through the trees. This impressive 7.5 tonne converted Leyland horse lorry now has a beautiful wood-clad interior that sleeps a family of four and even has room for a roll top bath tub.

There’s a comfy double bed with a sprung mattress, crisp white linen and feather pillows and duvet. The bed for the kids is located in a nook above the lorry cab, creating a cosy space for them. There’s also a kitchenette and an ensuite with a flushing toilet.

Outside, you’ll find plenty of space for the children to run around and play on the swing. There’s a gas barbecue and a picnic table so you can enjoy your meals outside under the trees. After a busy day exploring the local area, lie back and relax in the wood-fired hot tub or in one of the hammocks.

Thistle is set out in the open, all the better to enjoy that spectacular view. The interior of this lorry has a more modern feel with a sleek ensuite shower room and a fold down double bed. The kids’ bed is located above the cab and is therefore suitable for those up to the age of 10. The wood-fired hot tub is perfectly positioned for soaking up the spectacular scenery and there’s also an outdoor dining area.

For those looking to lie back and relax, there are several excellent spas in the area, including the luxury day spa at Gleneagles.
