I have been in Paris for most of the summer, discovering the best spa and boutique hotels for my Wellness In The City Guide. La Maison Favart is a beautifully romantic boutique hotel created out of a love story and located in the 2nd arrondissement on a square outside the Opéra-Comique.
My first thought as I enter into the sweet and welcoming 18th century-esque hotel is that it is reminiscent of scenes of my favourite childhood movie, Â Alice in Wonderland, with its pastel pink furnishing tones, quirky and eccentric furniture, travel souvenirs, ceramic cakes and oversized armchairs.
La Maison Favart is named after a Parisian love affair with a fairy tale story. A famous couple who established the Opéra-Comique in the glorious century of Enlightenment – Charles-Simon and Justine Favart, destined to be lovers with him being a writer and librettist and she an actress and a dancer. Justine acted in her husband’s plays while Charles-Simon created roles especially for her, celebrating their eternal love.
It’s a house that epitomises the romantic period and thoughts of this fairy tale love affair continue to dance with my imagination, into my bedroom, gracefully named after Justine herself. The charming room is elegantly designed, certainly fit for a princess with velvet and satin decoration in shades of raspberry, redcurrant and chantilly.
The bathroom is great for pampering oneself and relaxing in the fluffy dressing gowns! To fully indulge in a wellness experience there is the spa on the lower ground floor with a serene relaxation bath that has colour changing lights (light therapy) and a hammam.
You feel like a guest in a friends house here rather than a hotel with the super friendly staff and free movies to watch in your room! There’s a sense that inside the house we are all part of the theatre and will forever continue the love story in this perfectly pretty Parisian house with a beating heart.
I’d highly recommend the La Maison Favart to solo travellers, couples and girlfriends.
