Julia Carmen is the founder and creator of The School Without Walls: a school for Seers to awaken to their soul self of the ALL. The School Without Walls provides a space for Seers to release the busy mind of the Self and to hear their soul of heart so they can be in their fullness of themselves.

The School Without Walls focuses on the individuality and uniqueness of the One Self. The School Without Walls is a place that nurtures Soul Self and reminds of the Soul Self. The School Without Walls is open to all.

Meet Julia

Tell us a bit about yourself and where are you from

I am a woman of Mexican descent, of Indigenous Ancestry. My grandparents came from the state of Zacatecas, Mexico.

I am a mother of 5 grown children and a grandmother of 27 and a great grandmother of 13. In this time of my life, my grandchildren are my Loving salve of my life as they bring into my life much meaning and this is why I do my work and word.

I come from a long line of Curanderas – The Seer of the Alma, or Soul – walking in both worlds of the physical and non-physical. I have known that I am Seer all my life. At first, I didn’t do much about it. However, I would sometimes see things that I didn’t want to see. I used it as intuition.

But really, I didn’t know what to do with it. After years of thinking about this, I had a vision. Later, I was prompted to share my vision with a group of women. I did so, and every woman in the room started crying. It was then that I realized this information must go beyond that one group of women and out to all women, and through them, to everyone.

Tell us more about the School Without Walls – where did the name come from and what does it represent?

Earlier in my work, I was often traveling, and I did not have a brick & mortar storefront or location. I wondered how I would continue to do this work. I was talking to a friend and said “I have no walls, there are no walls to this school.” She said, “You are a school without walls!” We both laughed, but I realized, wherever I go, that’s where the school is. The School Without Walls was born.

What does it mean to walk in both worlds?

To walk in both worlds is to walk in the physical and the non-physical.

The physical world is what we live in daily, what we can hear, taste, smell, feel, and see. The realm we see on our planet, our Mother Earth. The life we experience in the human realm. The people we love such as friends and family. The people we interact with in our day-to-day routine, at work, on a walk, or at the store.

The non-physical is where your ‘Peeps’ are, that’s my term, what I use to represent our ancestors, guides, angels, assistants, guardians, supporters, teachers, tumus, etc. They connect to us whether we can see them or not. They are helping us through this Human life we are living.

Some folks may be tapped into the non-physical more than others and the same goes with the physical.

People may choose if they want to walk in one world more than another. It’s when we know we have a choice, then we can decide how we want to be present.

What do you think our purpose of humanity is?

It’s as simple as love. That sounds cliche, but it’s about that unconditional love for self and trust – from there it permeates out to everyone else. Love. That’s the bottom line. That’s what everyone is looking for — out there. But it’s really about finding the love for self.

Tell us about a spiritually profound experience you’ve had

I mentioned briefly above, my vision that led me to begin truly doing this work. I call that experience The Light Beings, and I have a whole page on my website that shares the story of that vision and the impact it had on me.

This vision led me to begin doing my work in the world. When I heard this truth from the vision, that I needed to do this work and be with folks with all these different energies of being — it’s not always easy, everyone brings something else they are carrying and has different energy. But, this vision led me to recognize, I’m doing this work with everybody. Everyone has their own path and I can meet them there as a guide.

What does ‘source’ mean to you?

Coming from indigenous ancestry, I see the source is me; it’s you; it’s the all. The omnipresence. There is no separation. That’s what it means to me.

What’s the wisest lesson you’ve learnt so far in your life?

From all of my teachers, I’ve learned this: be still, get quiet, and listen for the divine connection. The soul to the universal source of the soul.

Not listening to our human mind, but to that source. Be still, listen, and then do. Our overculture is big on Do, Do, Do, from the outside in. We need to act from the inside out. Listening to the divine! I get into too much trouble when I listen only to my own self.

Is there one particular person you have met who’s been instrumental in your life?

Mavis Karn: She’s been my most consistent teacher. She’s direct. She’s the most amazing listener I’ve ever known. Her gift is listening through all the busy-mind thinking that humans have. Of all my teachers — I’ve had some great ones — she’s been the one who has had the most powerful impact.

Is there a particular destination/place you have visited that you feel has a special kind of energy?

Dancing Spirit Ranch is one of these places. There are places I’m still drawn to visit where I haven’t yet been, like New Zealand, but Dancing Spirit Ranch is truly a place that has both worlds. It has a subtle, powerful energy.

I’ve loved so many places, in Hawaii and elsewhere, but Dancing Spirit Ranch is truly unique. It’s a place where you can walk in both worlds, and there’s something here for everyone. I’m excited to have one of the owners, Robin Gardner, joining me on the Indigenous Wisdom podcast in January to talk about the magic of this place.

Tell us more about your upcoming retreat

This will be our fourth time holding our Indigenous Soul retreat at Dancing Spirit Ranch. When I first discovered this place, I was struck that this is a place that is sacred – but not secret. This aligns with the work we do at The School Without Walls – also work that is sacred, but not secret. This is work that is open to anyone with curiosity.

At our retreat, we will be working with several of the Dragonfly Guides – wisdom messengers who help us to listen and look within, and investigate the being of our soul (our Alma).

We will explore the duality of both worlds through guided sessions, quiet meditative time, music and movement, and the inspiring energy of the Tierra at Dancing Spirit Ranch.

All of our retreats at The School Without Walls are intimate, and kept to a small size. We have a few spaces remaining for this retreat in May 2024
