As I travel throughout Europe to curate a series of wellness in the city guides, I was back in Paris again, in a bid to discover the best hotels for spa, wellness and relaxation.
I spent a sunny winter weekend at the four star Eugène En Ville. Located in the 9th district right between Montmartre and the Opera House, just a short walk to the Sacre Couer, my favourite spot in Paris! I enjoy the quietness of the winter, when it’s less touristic and there’s a sense of stillness.
As a woman with a soft spot for boutique hotels and luxurious spa features, the Eugene did not disappoint. I completely adored my little townhouse suite, set over two floors with my own hammam! No need to book an appointment, this spa was open was open 24 hours and I certainly made myself at home in it over the weekend.
Upstairs, the spacious bedroom opens up to a huge terrace with sun loungers (for the warmer months). As it was winter I admired the views across the pretty parisian houses and felt the sun against my face, from the inside. In the summer it would be perfect spot for outdoor yoga. Top marks for the bed; cosy, big with crisp white linens, pillows and cushions, just how a bed should be for a relaxing nights sleep.
Outside of the bedroom the style of the hotel is rather quirky but classy. Lots of black, white and grey mainly and 70’s themed furniture. The hotel has a lot of character and an air of mystery, I did not find out who Eugene was but there’s a man with a top hat and a dog who appears on various objects throughout the building.
The dining area has a relaxed library/cafe vibe to it and I found a little alcove to hide away in. As a travel writer I appreciate having a quiet place to work from with no distractions.
For the wellness traveler, unfortunately this is not the kind of hotel where you get a detox juice and avocados for breakfast! However there’s no shortage of vegetarian, vegan and juice bars in the area. I found a new one had just popped up round the corner from the hotel, called PH7.
Overall, I’d certainly recommend the Eugène En Ville as a wellness hotel and would enjoy it even more in the summer time when I can roll out my mat and practice yoga on that lovely terrace.
