The boutique and very chic Idol Hotel by Elegancia delivers the ultimate throwback experience to funk and soul music – from the swinging 60’s, super 70’s and decadent 80’s. It’s located on Rue d’Edimbourg in the 8th arrondissement, near the national Academy of Paris and the Opera Garnier.
I love hotels that are really different, quirky and unique and the Idol is big on creating an experience that moves you – in a groovy dancing kind of way. The Idol Hotel was created by owner Yann Gasparini, a jazz and soul-funk music lover along with Julie Gauthron, the funkiest hotel decorator in Paris. All 32 rooms and suites are designed to pay tribute to soul and funk music from the 1960’s to the 1980’s.
On entering the hotel, I hear the sounds of ”Boogie Wonderland” which already puts me in a dancing mood.
I was rather delighted with my saucy junior suite called ”My Chérie Amour”, a Studio 54 style room with jacuzzi bath tub con dramatic luminescent red disco lights, psychedelic retro wallpaper, vinyl and surround sound system blasting out funk and soul music from the speakers. Note – there’s plenty of space for a dance and it makes me wonder what kind of activities have previously gone on in here! The other rooms are aptly named Lady Soul, Moon Blue, Light My Fire, Jungle Fever and Give me the Night!
As a travel writer and blogger, for me it’s become all about the experience and the feeling a hotel creates and this is one that captured both my spirit and imagination.
So if you love jazz, soul and funk, glitz and glamour..then this is the hotel for you!
