On my tour of Europe to seek out the best places to practice yoga and eat healthy vegetarian and vegan food I have spent some time going back and forth to Barcelona, one of my favourite cities in the world.

Here’s my summer picks on where to practice yoga outdoors and my new vegetarian and vegan restaurant discoveries.

Yoga in the park

You can’t beat practicing yoga outside in nature, on a beautiful summers evening, besides a boat lake with ducks walking by and a naked bronze statue to focus on when in warrior three!

Every Tuesday and Thursday from 7.30-9pm Raphaella teaches a one and half hour yoga and Isha yoga meditation class in English at the Parc de la Cuitadella. Further details and class bookings can be found on Facebook.

Open Sky Yoga on the Roof Top

Bang in the centre of Barcelona you will find Yoga Weeks who also host retreat weeks which you can read about here. They hold daily one hour classes at sunset where you can salute the sun with views across the city.

Classes include the practice of different asanas with pranayama and a final shavasana, suitable for all levels and attracting an international line up of high quality teachers. Check their schedule here.

Where to eat and drink green juice

Sesamo

I met the owner and head chef Alfredo at the Reset Button retreat that I recently attended in the mountains of Barcelona and was blown away by the exquisite and delicious food that he created. When I found out that he owned a vegan and vegetarian tapas bar that I had somehow never heard of I couldn’t wait to try it out and sample the delights.

You can either go for the a la carte menu or the tasting menu, whichever you go for you won’t be disappointed and you certainly won’t go hungry! I highly recommend the mushroom croquettes and the Canarian wrinkly potatoes with mojo sauce. Make sure you save room for dessert as this is the menu!

Green juice lovers fear not! Start your day with a healthy juice kick! I came across the latest addition to the Flax & Kale and Teresa Carles brand by walking past it! They do amazing fresh cold pressed juices and vegetarian, vegan and raw dishes (80% of their menu is plant based). Try the avocado on toast to accompany your juice, it is loaded with avocado with a kick of chilli and splashes of lemon juice.

NABIBI

I discovered this little gem of a place in El Poblenou. It’s not fully vegetarian or vegan but all their food is 100% organic, fresh, seasonal and locally sourced. I went for and can highly recommend the vegan pad thai pictured above with tofu.
