How to get to Rhodes:

The distance between central Athens and the port of Rhodes is around 377 miles (607 km). The most comfortable way to make the trip is to fly. Flying to Rhodes is quick, and it can be equivalent in price or even cheaper than taking the ferry.

The longer (but more scenic) route to Rhodes is by sea. To do this, you will first need to get from Athens to the port of Piraeus. Piraeus is about 30 minutes from downtown Athens, and can be accessed via private transfer, rental car, taxi, or metro. Once at Piraeus, you can travel to the island by water transport.

Be prepared for an all-day or overnight ride. If you’re eager to enjoy Rhodes’ history and beaches, you can explore the island with this seven-day itinerary from Athens. Or, if you just can’t get enough of the Dodecanese, see more of the islands with this week-long boat trip.

By Ferry

Duration: 1 day (13-25 hours) Both Blue Star Ferries and Anek Lines operate ferries between Athens and Rhodes. Ferries leave once or twice daily from Piraeus port and arrive in Rhodes’ ferry terminal, located in the island’s capital. Many ferries travel overnight.

Vehicles can be taken on the ferry for an additional charge. Blue Star Ferries runs a high-speed ferry line, with an average travel time of 13 hours. The average travel time on Anek Lines is 24.5 hours. Although the ferry trip is long, it will allow you to enjoy a view of the Aegean Sea.

The ferry passes by many of the Dodecanese Islands, and if traveling on an evening ferry on a clear day, you may have the opportunity to see the sunset. Ferries can be booked online in advance, or at the ticket kiosks at Piraeus port. You will be able to book deck space, reserved seating, or a private/shared cabin with a bed.
