Ending a hot and busy week off in August with an afternoon at the Agua Bathhouse Spa is my way of saying thank you to my body and my mind after being constantly on the move, over doing and over thinking. Not to mention what I have put my skin through which was dehydrated and in need of some intensive moisturisation.
Located within the luxurious Mondrian hotel on the Southbank that’s submerged within the iconic Sea Containers building, the theme of course is nautical. Once inside I felt like I had been transported to a futuristic space of Hollywood-esque glamour and relaxation. Although predominately white, the curved walls are far from clinical looking. A nude roman sculpture called ‘Renaissance Man’ commissioned by Tom Dixon the designer of the hotel stands behind the hotel reception on the way on the way to the dressing room.
After putting on the customary white fluffy dressing gown and (black) slippers I wait for my therapist in the subterranean ‘Spa Playground’ lounge. The centre piece catching everyones eye here is the striking floor-to-ceiling copper teardrop installation that’s reflective of Roman water vessels. The tranquility of the room had started to have a calming effect on me and I floated into the treatment room ready to experience the 50 minute ”Made For Life” facial by Spiezia Organics that I was booked in for.
About half way into the facial I had the thought that this was the best facial i’ve ever had. There was something about the gentleness of the movements and the technique that the therapist used as she cleansed, toned and massaged my face..like my skin was able to breathe again!.
The niche, ethical brand from Cornwall fits seamlessly with Agua Bathhouse & Spa’s current collection of carefully curated authentic spa experiences, personalised treatments and original selection of skincare. An award-winning range of 100% organic skincare and wellbeing products, Made for LifeTM by Spiezia Organics grew from the founders passion for skincare that nourishes the body both inside and out.
Wellbeing is at the heart of its philosophy. The products felt and smelt absolutely divine and were perfect for my sensitive and dry skin. My face was left feeling baby soft and glowing, and knowing that all of the ingredients are completely natural with no chemicals is hugely important to me.
Every single oil, balm and ointment is hand-blended in Cornwall, using locally-sourced herbs, flowers and oils to create highly effective products that are bursting with natural bioactives, nutrients and vitamins. I am in love with this brand!
After my treatment it was back to the spa lounge for my pre-ordered healthy menu of raw bites and a green juice. A more indulgent menu of ciabattas, coffee and champagne is also available along with organic chocolate fondues and gourmet ice-cream sundaes for dessert. There are loungers which are more like beds with duvets set up for those who fancy a post a spa siesta. Each has a curtain for privacy between guests and there are magazines to keep you awake or the flickering candles and relaxing music if you prefer to meditate. Guests can spend as much time as they like here, there is nobody rushing you!.
The changing rooms are fab and huge! There’s an Art Deco-style steam room which I was advised not to use after my facial but instead had a ‘storm’ shower equipped with Malin and Goetz shampoo, conditioner and body wash. I was totally refreshed and ready to be transported back to ground level and face the real world again.
